Rocket Retires On Top Tue, August 11, 2015 - 4:16 PM

South Mandurah Falcons will go into the finals of the Alcoa Peel Football Ladder sitting atop the premiership ladder, but if they are to win this year’s hotly contested premiership, they will have to do so with out their spearhead and favourite son Rod Tregenza.

Tregenza’s amazing career has been ended due to a hip condition that will require surgery in the coming months.

In a career that spanned 328 Games, Rocket amassed a tally of 1815 goals which poses the question- has anyone kicked more goals?

Tregenza left South Mandurah to persue an AFL and WAFL career spending time at Peel Thunder, East Fremantle, North Melbourne and South Adelaide and career highlights include a Simpson Medal in 1999 and Bernie Naylor Medals as the WAFL’s leading goal scorer in 1999 and 2000.

At South Mandurah Rocket kicked 100+ goals in 9 seasons and in his first year back at Falcon Oval in 2006, he kicked a monstrous 205 goals, a feat he topped once in 2008 with 238.  He has tasted premiership success in 1995, 2006 and 2008 and will be getting behind the Falcons in their quest to cap off an impressive return to form.

Despite having his hopes of playing in one last finals campaign ruined through injury, Rocket continued to put the team first “I’m sure once this season is over I’ll reflect on my career achievements and the journey football has taken me on, at the moment I’m just going to focus my attention on supporting the guys that have supported me”

The Club will be officially celebrating Rod’s retirement on Sunday 23rd August 2015 at the South Mandurah Football Club, Lynda Street, Falcon from 2.00pm.  Everybody is welcome to come along and join South Mandurah farewell a legend of the game.   For more info contact smfc@westnet.com.au
