WA Country Football League New Holland v Perth Football League State Women's Game Tue, June 21, 2022 - 10:26 AM

Lock it in your calendars! This Friday 24 June, the WA Country Football League New Holland State Women's side will take on Perth Football League’s State side under lights at Inglewood Oval from 7:15pm.

This will be the second meeting between the two women’s representative sides after last year’s inaugural match that saw WA Country defeat the Perth Football League by 25 points.

Coached by Gemma Harrison who was the Assistant Coach last year for the side, she is hoping her side can get the back to back win. When asked what this game means for women in country football Gemma stated "It is anticipated that this game is viewed as the pinnacle for female country footballers to aspire to. These girls have been recognised as some of the best from across the state. We acknowledge all the country leagues who have embraced senior football for women and the coaches, volunteers and families who have assisted these players with their journey."

Gemma has coached across all levels of football, from auskick to juniors to being head coach for the Goldfield Women's Country Championship side which started up in 2019. Gemma also played a major part in launching the Goldfileds Female Football compeititon. "I have a true passion for women's football and to be selected as the Head Coach for the State Country team has been an incredible honour."

Now who do we look out for on Friday night?

No doubt, Beth Bond will be one of our best. Hailing from the football rich region of the South West, Beth is a three time premiership player and captain. She has kicked over 150 goals in her career and has an incredible passion and understanding of our game.

Jess Verburgge is another notable player from Donnybrook FC. Jess is the reigning Nola Marino Medallist which she won as a 17 year old amongst very good company. Jess will be a key player in our midfield.

Taylah Orzel was awarded with the 2022 Great Southern Football League Fairest and Best after a ripper season. She was the captain of the Royals FC and 2021 premiership player. She’s quick, a ball magnet and will often be seen clearing it out of the pack.

The game will be broadcasted live on the Perth Football League YouTube channel and will cover all the action siren-to-siren thanks to their broadcast partners Dartfish.

Entry is free - Patrons are not permitted to bring alcohol into the venue or consume it outside licensed areas.
