2021 NUTRIEN AG COUNTRY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS – CANCELLED Tue, June 29, 2021 - 1:33 PM

The WA Country Football League, in conjunction with Nutrien Ag Solutions, has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Nutrien Ag Country Football Championships due to the current lockdown measures in place within the Perth and Peel regions. The cancellation includes the Women’s Country Football Championships (3-4 July), the CBH Group Colts Championships (8-10 July) and the Nutrien Ag Country Football Championships (9-11 July).

The current restrictions make it impossible to proceed with the Women’s Country Championships scheduled for this coming weekend, and with no certainty about what restrictions will remain in place beyond the current lockdown period, the WACFL believes it is in the best interests of the competing teams and our communities to make this decision as early as possible.

“To find ourselves in this position again and having to cancel the Nutrien Ag Country Championships and CBH Colts Championships was an extremely difficult decision, but one that is line with the current State Government guidelines” Tom Bottrell, WAFC Executive Manager Country Football & Facilities said.

“The Country Championships has been a part of our football landscape for over 50 years and Nutrien Ag Solution has been on that journey for 48 of those”.

“Our Board and staff are devastated for the hundreds of men and women that have put their hands up and prepared themselves to represent their leagues and communities at the Championships. So much work has been done to get the carnival up and running this year and with the most teams nominated in over ten years it is a bitter pill to swallow having to cancel”.

“Whilst we are disappointed the 2021 Nutrien Ag Country Championship won’t go ahead as initially planned, it is very important that we continue to put the health and well-being of our community at the forefront of every decision.”

Nutrien Ag Solutions Regional Manager - West, Andrew Duperouzel stated: “We are so proud as a company to have supported WA Country Football for almost five decades, because we know the vital role footy plays in our rural and regional communities. But we are facing an unprecedented crisis with the spread of the coronavirus, and the health and safety of everyone involved in football and the communities we play in must come first. Many of our employees and customers are involved in country football and we feel for everyone involved in this really tough decision.”
