WACFL INTRODUCE NEW PODCAST ‘Bush Footy Legends’ Mon, June 29, 2020 - 4:17 PM

In conjunction with Healthway, the WACFL are excited to introduce a new podcast series, Bush Footy Legends, thanks to Think Mental Health. This campaign is part of a comprehensive approach that aims to build mental health, and wellbeing across Western Australia.

Over the next couple of months, The West’s Steve Butler will be joined by a legend of country football in a podcast that will be released each Wednesday. The panel is made up of some extraordinary country footballers from all different walks of life and how they got to achieve success from their small country towns. Take for example, our first legend off the ranks is born and bred Kalgoorlie boy Dean Kemp, he tells us the path that led him to win two premierships with the West Coast Eagles.

From their country football beginnings, to the trials and tribulations of being a high-profile athlete and everything between, the podcast series will capture how our Bush Footy Legends overcame their challenges and highlight the important role which football plays in maintaining the mental health of our communities.

WAFC Executive Manager Country Football & Facilities Tom Bottrell is excited about the important message that our ‘Bush Footy Legends’ can continue to promote to the country football family.

“The Think Mental Health message is so important within our regional communities, particularly during the challenging times that we are presently experiencing.”

“Steve is a great country lad at heart, and I can’t wait for him to bring the stories of our country football legends to life for all to hear.”

“Their stories will help to highlight the role our clubs play in providing an avenue to Check in on our mates.”

The first episode of ‘Bush Footy Legends” is now available here on our website and features West Coast Eagles and Goldfields super star Dean Kemp.
