State Country side named ahead of clash with South Australia

The WACFL has named a strong 22-man squad ahead of the annual interstate clash with the South Australia Country Football League next Saturday, 28th July.

After a drought breaking 40 point win last year on home soil, the New Holland State Country side will return to Adelaide Oval looking to taste success for the first time at the home of South Australian Football.

The squad includes former AFL duo Josh Bootsma and Jesse Crichton, who both had great Landmark Country Championships, with Crichton receiving best on ground honors in the Grand Final.

Former Claremont trio Mitch Andrews, Dylan Ross and CJ Oakley will reunite with all three currently playing in various parts of Country WA. Oakley who plays under former Perth star Brett Claudius at Cable Beach was part of the Regional Allstars side at the Landmark Country Championships. His teammate from the championships, Dampier’s Guy Langdon, brother of GWS’s Zac Langdon, has also made his first side after an outstanding championships.

Peel trio Eddy Dann, Brad Holmes and Andrew Haydon will be joined by Sandover Medalist Rory O’Brien in the final 22 whilst Avon’s hot form at the Championships has been recognized with Mitch Gill, Matt Outridge, James Turner, James Venturini, Rob Forrest and Alex Moreno all earning selection.

Great Northern's Jamie Koric's is one of a number of players receiving their first State Country jumpers which includes Liam McKenna (South West), Jordan Delbridge (Goldfields) and Daniel Acres (Central Midlands Coastal) whilst 2018 Jock Coleman Medalist from the recent Country Championships, Jace Cormack, returns to the side after playing in 2015.

The squad will travel to Adelaide next Friday ahead of the clash with the Croweaters which will be a Curtain Raiser to the Saturday night blockbuster between Adelaide and the Melbourne.

To compliment the final 22 selectors have named an extended 35-man squad to provide cover for this weekend’s round of fixtures.
