West Coast Poly Player of the Year - Scott Worthington Tue, September 27, 2016 - 1:50 PM

Boulder City’s Scott Worthington has capped off a brilliant season by being named the West Coast Poly Player of the Year. Worthington was announced the winner at the WA Country Football League's WAFL Grand Final Luncheon, narrowly beating off South Mandurah's Brendon Jones, Wongan Ballidu's Arron Russell and Gibson's Jordan McAllister for the title. The dual Subiaco Premiership player returned to his home club as Captain in season 2016 and quickly established himself as one of the best players in Country WA.

Selection in the WA State Country Squad was achieved quickly and highlighted by a best on ground performance against the WAAFL Under 23’s in May.

The Regional All-star side’s inclusion at the Landmark Country Championships gave Worthington a great chance to compete against the best country players in WA and he revelled in the opportunity, winning selection in the Landmark All-stars team and also being awarded with the Jock Beattie Trophy as the Best player in the Southern Pool of Division B.

Selection in the WA State Country Team that travelled to Adelaide in late July followed before Worthington’s focused shifted back to home and helping Boulder City in their quest for their first premiership since 2005.

A top of the ladder finish had Boulder eyeing off a Grand Final berth and whilst they had to do it the hard way after losing the Semi-final to Mines Rovers they made their way through to the final Saturday with a comprehensive win over Railways in the preliminary final, thanks largely to a four goal haul from Worthington. Worthington saved his best to last though, with a masterful five goal performance in the Grand Final leading Boulder City to break an eleven year premiership drought and also seeing him named as the Fyson Medallist as best on ground.

Congratulations Scott, the 2016 West Coast Poly Player of the Year.
