Country flavour in State Academies Thu, May 5, 2016 - 2:24 PM

The DEPPRO WAFL State 18s and 16s Academies have been named with a number of young men from country WA included in the two squads.

The 2016 AFL National 18s Championships will include five Division One teams – Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria Metro, Victoria Country and Allies, which will consist of the best players from Division Two teams NSW/ACT, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania following their games in May.

The Division One Championship will consist of five rounds, with each side to play four games including one against the Allies. WA will play its first game against Victoria Country on June 5 at Medibank Stadium.

The pathway for talented footballers in country WA is perfectly showcased by the Goldfields Jacob Miller (pictured) who has made the transition from playing Country Football for Railways in Kalgoorlie and winning selection in the CBH Group Colts All-stars at the Landmark Championships last year to being part of the WAFL system this season and being part of this year’s DEPPRO State 18’s Academy.
